Lost 2

Luke 19:10: For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

What a desperate word is that word lost. It will be helpful to study the definitions of the word save along with the definitions of the word lost.

Lost: To destroy fully, to perish, to lose, to destroy, to die, to mar or to perish.

The definitions of the word lost speak strongly about the future of the lost. Those who are lost are already in that condition and unless Jesus saves them, they will continue in that condition forever. They are already destroyed, already marred and already dead.

John 5:24: Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

1 John 3:14: We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that loveth not his brother abideth in death.

The Bible adds the words condemned already to the words lost and dead.

John 3:18: He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

The dead are not just spiritually lost, they are spiritually dead and they are condemned already.

If we study the definitions of the word save and the opposites of that word, we can more vividly understand the present condition of the lost.

Save: Safe, to save, to deliver, to protect, to heal, to preserve, to do well, to make whole or to be made whole.

Those who are not saved are unsafe, undelivered, unprotected, unhealed, unpreserved, not doing well and incomplete.

Next we can add the word blind. Those who are lost, dead and condemned are also blind.

John 3:3: Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.

And then we can add the words unperceptive, deaf, without understanding, unconverted and unforgiven.

Mark 4:12: That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

Unless you go to a Biblical church today many of the people you see today and probably most of them will be lost, dead, condemned, unsafe, undelivered, unprotected, unhealed, unpreserved, not doing well, incomplete, blind, deaf, without understanding, unconverted and unforgiven and few that you see today will be saved.

Matthew 7:13-14: Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: 14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

What are you doing about it? Do you pity them? Do you love them? Are you at least praying for some of them? Do you know that you were once one of them? Are you still one of them? Do you understand what it is to be saved?
